“You don't take a photograph, you make it.” - Ansel Adams

My name is Chris Lewis, I am a professional photographer based in the Lake District. Landscape photography has been a part of my life for as many years as I can remember. It all started with an ancient Kodak Brownie Starlet rescued from a jumble sale when I was about 11 years old. Not long after that I was asking for film as Christmas presents - I was hooked! There was no going back.

Early influences were Ansel Adams, Edward Weston and Dorothea Lange, amongst others. Their beautiful and thought provoking monochrome images inspired me and formed the way I started to see things around me. I suppose my love for black and white photography was largely due to them.

After school I trained as a photographer and then started working as such in London. In those days most professional work was carried out with enormously heavy film cameras and so I am very grateful for the much lighter digital cameras of today.

Now my family and I have the enormous privilege of living in Cumbria on the edge of the Lake District National Park. I have established a successful business as a commercial photographer and love working in this beautiful part of the world.
